விருதுநகர் அருகே மல்லாங்கிணரில் கல்வெட்டு கண்டெடுப்பு Inscription found at Mallanginar near Virudhunagar

        விருதுநகர் மாவட்டம், மல்லாங்கிணரில், 123 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு ஊர்மக்களுக்கு தர்மமாக கருங்கற்களால் ஆன தண்ணீர்க் கிணறு அமைத்துக் கொடுத்த தகவல் சொல்லும் கல்வெட்டு கண்டெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மல்லாங்கிணரில் இருந்து கல்குறிச்சி செல்லும் சாலையில் முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் தங்கப்பாண்டியன் நினைவிடம் அருகில் கருங்கற்களால் சதுர வடிவில் கட்டப்பட்ட கிணற்றின் மேல் விளிம்பில் ஒரு கல்வெட்டு இருப்பதை, இராமநாதபுரம் தொல்லியல் ஆய்வு நிறுவனத்தின் தலைவர் வே.இராஜகுரு, நூர்சாகிபுரம் சு.சிவகுமார் ஆகியோர் கண்டெடுத்துள்ளனர். இதுபற்றி அவர்கள் கூறியதாவது,

பழங்காலம் முதல் மன்னர்கள், வணிகர்கள், ஜமீன்தார்கள், கிராம ஆட்சியாளர்கள், மக்கள் எனப் பலரும் தானம் செய்து அதைக் கல்வெட்டுகளாகவும் செப்பேடுகளாகவும் பதிவு செய்துள்ளனர். இதில் தண்ணீர் தானம் மிகப் புண்ணியமாக கருதப்பட்டது.

கிணற்றின் விளிம்பில் இரண்டு வரியில் உள்ள கல்வெட்டு, கலியுகம் 5002, பிலவ ஆண்டு மாசி மாதம், இங்கிலிஸ் வருடம் 1902-ல் மல்லாங்கிணர் க.நாகம நாயக்கர் குமாரர் கணக்கு குப்புசாமி நாயக்கர் ஊர் மக்களின் பயன்பாட்டுக்காக தர்மமாக கருங்கற்களால் ஆன இக்கிணற்றை அமைத்துக் கொடுத்ததாகத் தெரிவிக்கிறது. இதில் கலி, தமிழ், ஆங்கில ஆண்டுகள் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளன. மேலும் 1904-ல் நாகமநாயக்கர் இவ்வூர் சென்னகேசவப் பெருமாள் கோயிலில் மடப்பள்ளி ஒன்றைக் கட்டிக்கொடுத்துள்ளார் என அக்கோயில் கல்வெட்டில் உள்ளது. அக்காலகட்டத்தில் இக்கிராமத்தின் ஆட்சியாளர்களாக இவர்கள் இருந்திருக்கலாம்.

கி.பி.13-ம் நூற்றாண்டில், குலசேகரப்பாண்டியன் ஆட்சியில் மக்களின் பயன்பட்டுக்காக ஒரு துலாக்கிணறு விழுப்பனூரில் தோண்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இம்மாவட்டம் முழுவதும் ஆங்கிலேயர் ஆட்சிக்காலத்தில் தண்ணீர் பஞ்சம் ஏற்பட்ட சமயங்களில் இத்தகைய கிணறு, குளங்களை தனி நபர்களும் அமைத்துக் கொடுத்துள்ளனர். நரிக்குடியில் உலகப்பன் சேருவைக்காரர், குண்டுகுளத்தில் கருப்பணக்குடும்பன் குளங்களையும், சோலைசேரியில் பெத்தநல்லுநாயக்கர் எண்கோண வடிவ கிணற்றையும் உபயமாகச் செய்துள்ளனர். இவ்வாறு அவர்கள் கூறினர்.

Inscription found at Mallanginar near Virudhunagar

An inscription has been found at Mallanginar, Virudhunagar district, informing about the donation of a stone well to the villagers 123 years ago.

On the road from Mallanginar to Kalkurichi, near the memorial of former Minister Thangapandian, an inscription has been found on the upper part of a square-shaped well built with stones by Ramanathapuram Archaeological Research Foundation President V. Rajaguru and Noorsakipuram S. Sivakumar. They said,

Since ancient times, kings, merchants, landlords, village rulers and people have donated and recorded it in inscriptions and copper plates. In this, water donation was considered very auspicious.

The two-line inscription on the well states that in the Kali Yuga 5002, the month of Masi in the Pilava year, and the English year 1902, Mallanginar Kuppusamy Nayakakkar son of K. Nagama Nayakkar built this well made of stones as a charity for the use of the people of the village. The Kali, Tamil and English years are mentioned in this. The temple inscription also states that in 1904, Nagama Nayakkar built a madapalli (temple kitchen) in the Chennakesava Perumal temple of this village. They may have been the rulers of this village at that time.

In the 13th century AD, a well with Picottah was dug in Villuppanur for the use of the people during the rule of Kulasekarapandian. During the time of water scarcity throughout the district during the British rule, such wells and ponds were also built by individuals. They said that Ulagappan Cheruvaikarar at Narikudi and Karupana Kudumban at Kundukulam had kindly constructed the ponds in their villages and Bethanallunayakkar constructed the octagonal well in Solaiseri.
