800 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் காஷ்மீரில் இருந்து தீர்த்தாண்டதானத்துக்கு வந்த தானம்

    இராமநாதபுரத்திலிருந்து நாகப்பட்டினம் செல்லும் கிழக்கு கடற்கரைச் சாலையில் தொண்டியின் அருகில் உள்ளது தீர்த்தாண்டதானம். இவ்வூர் கடற்கரை அருகில் பெரியநாயகி உடனுறை சர்வதீர்த்தமுடைய நாயனார் எனும் சிவன் கோயில் உள்ளது. இராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் மேற்கு நோக்கி அமைந்துள்ள சிவன் கோயில்கள் இவ்வூரும், நயினார்கோயிலும் ஆகும். இராமேஸ்வரம், சேதுக்கரை போல இங்கும் ஆடி, தை அமாவாசை நாட்களில் மக்கள் கடலில் புனித நீராடுவது வழக்கமாக உள்ளது. தெற்காசிய அளவில் புகழ்பெற்ற வணிகர் குழுக்கள் இவ்வூரில் தங்கி வணிகம் செய்துள்ள பெருமை பெற்றுள்ளது.

   Theerthandathanam (Tittanam in inscriptions) is located near Thondi on the East Coast Road from Ramanathapuram to Nagapattinam. Near the beach of this village is the Shiva temple of Periyanayaki sametha Sarvatheerthamudhaiya Nayanar. The Shiva temples located towards the west in Ramanathapuram district are this village and Nayinarkoil. Like Rameswaram and Sethukarai, people here also take a holy dip in the sea on the days of Aadi and Thai Amavasya. It is the pride of the famous merchant guilds in South Asia to have stayed and done business in this village.
